Random extremely high cpu usage

Hey fellas,

Since a couple of days my pc has been acting really strange. For no apparent reason, CPU and memory usage randomly jump up to 80/100%. It's really annoying in games. About two weeks ago I ran a benchmark for cs: source. I got an average of 294 fps. I ran the same test just now, and I only got a measly 60 fps. Also, every other game that I could max out without a problem before are now almost unplayable due to iput lag, stuttering and low fps. Already ran every possible virus-scanner you could think of, with no result. Temps are ok, so is voltage. Everything is stock-clocked, always has been.

Specs:

EVGA gtx 670
i7 2600k
G-skill ripjaw 16gb ddr3
Antec 520 high-current gamer
Asus z77 extreme4

Cheers,
Cheeki.

No, the weird part is that whenever I open up task manager the cpu usage drops back to normal (20-15%). Once you close it, it jump back up after a little while. OCCT doesn't seem to affect it, though. That's how I found out about the high usage in the first place.

According to here:

http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

a system using a GTX 670 is recommended to have a 500W PSU. Since you have a quality 520W PSU, it was sufficient at first. However, due to capacitor aging and other factors, it may no longer be performing at peak performance. Since you were operating near the limit of the PSU's wattage rating when under full load situations, it is possible that it is no longer capable of supporting high-end load situations.

It isn't necessarily a PSU issue, it could be a number of things. Have you checked all your power connections to the motherboard and GPU? Have you cleaned the interior of your case to remove accumulated dust (although this should have resulted in high temps)? Have you tried removing and reseating your GPU into its PCIe slot? Have you run a memory stress test program such as MemTest, Prime 95 or OCCT? Have you run a HDD diagnostic on your hard drive(s)?
