How far should I be able to push this CPU with the hyper 212 evo and what should the prime temps look like?

I have a Asrock z77 extreme 3.

You'll probably get 4.2 to 4.4 without getting too hot. It's going to depend on your chip and just how much voltage it needs at the higher clocks. Ivy starts to get very hot on air and closed-loop water starting at about 1.25v. Obviously higher clocks also increase the temp too.

With my i7-3770k and Corsair H80, I generally try to keep my prime95 temps from exceeding ~80c though when I was charting its maximum overclock, I let it go up to ~90c. But if you are going for a 24/7 overclock, I suggest you keep your max daily-use (including gaming and compute like Folding@home, SETI@home, etc) temps under ~70c and your prime95 max temps under ~80. That's my advice anyway.

Hmm, well I already was running it at 4.4 ghz with the stock cooler. Right now I'm testing 4.5. I would think with an evo 212 I might be able to get it to 5.0, maybe not 5.0 while running prime 95 but at least while playing games.

What voltage might I have to use to get a 5.0 stable OC (stable at least while playing games). I noticed that prime definitely puts the temps above where games do.

Well, as long as the temps are good, bump the multiplier up one at a time while leaving the voltage alone. Then test for stability. When you inevitably get unstable, bump up the voltage and test for stability again. When exploring a new CPU's overclock, I bump up the voltage in .01 increments.

Example: You're at 4.5ghz and 1.25 volts. You set the multi to 46 and the system becomes unstable. Bump the voltage up to 1.26 and test again. Keep bumping voltage in .01 increments until you are either stable at the 46 multiplier or until your cpu is too hot for your comfort. I mentioned my own comfort 'maximums' in the previous post. Then if it is stable, try 47 for a multiplier and repeat. Does that make sense?

Do you recommend offset mode? If so just increase the offset .01 at a time?
