So my Toshiba Satellite is having problems ever since about last Monday. All my computer says when I try to open a tab is establishing secure connection. So I restart the computer and the internet last for about another hour and I have to restart my computer again. This happens 4 or 5 times throughout the day and is just a hassle. Anyone have any ideas?

Yes, that's what I suggested. You can access this from control panel, or in the fashion you...
1have you scanned your hard drive for malware? lots of free programs out there for it
2Did you make any changes last Monday? new software, run any updates, ect.
3 Is a network issue or internet issue? can you type in your modem or routers ip and get to the config page then its internet connection issue if you cant get to anything then its a network connection issue

Have had this issue with an Acer. What seems to keep it connected the longest is to change the settings.

In power options there was an option to control when to put the computer to sleep, etc. When the computer was idle for 5 minutes it would disconnect from the wi-fi to save power. We unchecked this option and now only drop occasionally, where before it was extremely bad.

that reminds me there if you go into device manager click on the network card and then power tab at the end theres a check box that says "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" unselect that may be an idea for both of you to try actually

Yes, that's what I suggested. You can access this from control panel, or in the fashion you described. It has the same effect and does the job. Although I do think there is something specific to the Acer that keeps it dropping, as a similar Dell has same power management options and never drops from wi-fi in same location.
