Possible Monitor/GPU Issue : No Display

Hi all! I just finished putting together a new build and can't get my monitor to display anything.

Motherboard: Asrock x79 Extreme6 LGA 2011
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 760 4gb
Power: Corsair RM750

So I put everything in the case, connect all the wires, turn on the power - everything seems to work fine; CPU lights up and all the fans turn on including the GPU fans. There is an initial faint burning smell that goes away after I turn off the computer and restart (I remove some twist ties on the fan wires but I don't think that caused the smell).

So next step. I bring in a monitor, plug it into the wall. It says something like "No VGA detected, will enter power save mode in 5 minutes", so I plug in a VGA cord (that is connected to the GPU via a VGA to DVI adapter that came with the GPU). The message goes away to a blank screen for a second and then it says "Entering power save mode", and everything goes black and the monitor's LED goes from blue to orange. Nothing will display after this unless I disconnect the VGA cord in which case it goes back to its original message.

So that's where I'm at now. I've only tried some basic testing by removing and replacing the GPU and power supply cables and no change. I'm not really sure where to go from here and would love some advice! I get the feeling the issue is with the GPU, but obviously am not sure.

Yes I have 4 of the 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z sticks installed in the "1" slots (two on either side of the CPU, on every other slot).

EDIT: Also can anyone tell me if this motherboard has some sort of snapping resistance tabs for their PCI-E slots (like the ones for their RAM slots) I ask because in the past the motherboards I've worked with had them, but I couldn't find one on this motherboard so I just stuck the GPU in and pushed down till it kind of made a faint clicking noise, but am not sure if that's correct especially since it looks like there's a piece of plastic on the right side of it that doesn't match up with the GPU's side.
