First PC Build. Im looking to see if im over doing it for my needs. Thanks

I am not a gamer, so i do not think i need to spend any money on an graphics card. I want to use this PC primarily for basic normal usage, but would be running my plex installation from it (with the HDDs located on a FreeNAS, that my friend built me). I also would be doing some video encoding and editing.

Any input would be great.

Will you be overclocking at all? If not, you can drop to a regular 4770 and a cheaper motherboard. The i7 really is the best CPU for the tasks you have lined up for it, but it isn't necessary unless you're doing a LOT of editing and encoding/transcoding to justify the cost.

Plex can be CPU intensive if you are using it to transcode a lot of media, which may be needed over DLNA or to serve to older devices. In that regard the i7 will also help, but again probably not necessary unless you're doing a lot of it.

Thanks for the reply.

I am not currently planning on overclocking it, mainly because i dont know how. But i might in the future. My wife and kids (as well as myself) use plex all day. It works with the setup i have now (an old dell) but it lags when transcoding 720p bluray (1080p stuff doesnt run well at all). I access the plex nativly throught some of my samsung TVs and also with a couple Rokus that i have.
