Did I not properly reconnect the monitor video ribbon after replacing my laptop screen? I see a vertical line of blue pixels. Also, I forgot to reconnect the webcam. I have trouble seeing the ribbon connection while working (eyesight >50years old). Any special trick or tools needed for this task?

The ribbon should seat in firmly with no play, so you would want to re-seat that cable to make sure.

However, the fact that you are getting 1 vertical line of blue pixels, would suggest a problem with the actual display.
Testing that said display on another device, or using a different display altogether would prove/disprove that theory.

I have remade the connection and get the same result, a blue line. I don't have spare monitors lying around to test the monitor. Though annoying to have just paid $165 for the new monitor I don't like the idea of trying another replacement. The connector is so flimsy it makes me nervous to reconnect it. Wonder if there is some nifty, cheap tool to facilitate this?

It sounds to me as though the replacement display is defective. Especially since you re-seated the cable and you are in fact getting an image up on the screen. Even more so, if you didn't have this same issue on your previous display. This would indicate that there is a problem on the receiving end (the LCD display). Is this a NEW laptop display or a used/refurbished one??

If you don't have a spare display to test, I would ask to return the item for a replacement. This will save you a lot of headaches.

If your symptom is a thin blue line running vertical toward the side of the monitor and the line is a few pixels(3?) wide, perfectly straight, all the same color:
I had this problem a long time ago and again today and I fixed it. I found an article that I can no longer find and I forget the exact cause, however, I recall that it is akin to an error code generated by the monitor driver; something to do with the video driver not receiving feedback from the monitor that it was expecting. The first time I had it, I re-installed the video driver and that fixed it. Today, I updated it to the latest version and that fixed it. I wish I could recall the full cause/solution, but I had to respond because so many of the comments are focused on faulty monitor/bad-pixels and that's not the issue.
