Hi, i have a old cpu that is a Intel pentium E6500 dual core 2.93GHz processor, it's better then mine so i want to put in it my motherboard, which is a Acer Aspire m1610. I tried putting the cpu in my mobo and it fits, and my pc turns on but it doesn't post. The cpu in my pc at the moment is a Intel pentium E2180 dual core 2.00GHz. There the same socket size and my pc turns on, i read somewhere that it might be the psu? my psu is 300w. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

It may be your current BIOS version does not support the newer processor. You may need to update it if there is one available that includes the new CPU. They are both socket 775 65W CPUs, so if your PSU works with the old processor, it should work with the new one. My money would be on BIOS update or the new processor is no good/damaged.

The Acer website....if you can find it......when I looked, got an error page when trying to go to download page, so the motherboard may be old enough that they have stopped providing links.

Ok so i updated my bios and i put my new cpu in and it turned on and this time it did post, but after the first screen, it said "MAC address in APC and EEPROM failed! Press F1 to continue, please input address next time!" so i pressed f1 and i got the BSOD.

It's my windows files that are failing to load up, the hard drive, i think that i need to change my sata hard drive from ahic to ide or raid or vice versa, i just can't find that in my bios.
