Can you partition a hard drive and then factory reset the original?

Basically, I have a hard drive with some important media on it that I don't want to lose. Can I partition my C:/ drive and then put all of my important stuff into the newly created partition, then after that set a factory reset on the C:/?
I'm trying to clean/reset my computer, but I don't have an external drive. Thank you!

Generally, the manufacturer supplied reset function/partition/DVD will completely wipe the entire drive and bring it back to exactly how it came from the store. It does not care about your partitions or drive letters.

So no....your stuff on another partition will be gone.
