Quite ironic that I bought a bluray player. That doesn't play blurays. Regular dvds play just fine but when I pop in a blu-ray disc, it appears, and I try to play it, but Windows Media player always says something about copy protect fail or the disc being created in an unsupported manner. The point is - it never plays blurays. Does anyone know why? Is it because I never registered it or something?

Solution
You need the blu-ray player software to play the blu-ray movies. If you don't have one you have to buy one, I know it is expensive. Here is the review. http://blu-ray-player-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

I recommend to buy either #1, #2 or #3 one when you can find the deal.

I built a computer with an Asus drive in it. I installed Windows 8.1 (a mistake for a different forum.) I contacted Asus technical support. I was told basically that it was too bad if I felt cheated. I shouldn't assume the drive would play Blu-ray just because it had the Blu-ray logo on it. It was clear that I was supposed to feel like an idiot for assuming that spending $100 on a Blu-ray drive entitled me to actually be able to use it. I was told I could not return the drive unless the vendor I purchased it from specifically stated that the drive would play commercial Blu-ray discs. I'm following VLC, hopeful they will solve the problem but for now, without spending another $60 (roughly and no guarantee even that would work) I'm screwed. My solution? I won't give Asus or Newegg.com another dime unless one of them makes this right.
