Before posting, I was looking in the 'start here' section of the forum. I am currently very interested in purchasing a monitor in one of these sections: QHD: 2560 x 1440, WQXGA: 2560 x 1600.

I am looking to stay with at least a 27" - 30" monitor with a low response time.

I plan on using my monitor primarily for gaming and media consumption such as blu ray quality movies.

My current video card: GeForce GTX 660

I am seeing on eBay that 27" 2560x1440 are going for around $300 while the 30" 2560x1600 are going for about $400.

I am looking to get some input before my purchase, thanks!

Well, judging that the 30" 2560x1600 has a 16:10 aspect ratio, that will not be suitable for...

I have a Yamakasi Q270 and am typing this message on it and had it since April. It still runs like the day I bought it and has 0 defects and 0 dead pixels. The link I posted is a recently announced 1440p monitor from Yamakasi that is much like mine, but is now slimmer, brighter, and consumed less power. I trust Yamakasi over any of the other Korean ebay monitors.

I was looking at that one myself, but I am now considering spending a little bit more for the 30" Any thoughts?

Well, judging that the 30" 2560x1600 has a 16:10 aspect ratio, that will not be suitable for gaming. I used to game on a 16:10 monitor and the image looked it was being stretched vertically and games developers optimize games for 16:9 ratio which is found on 2560x1440 monitors. 16:10 monitors are for graphic artists/photographers who like to use their display in portrait view and turn the monitor at a 90 degree angle. Other than that it serves no purpose for multimedia use. Either stay with 1080p, 1440p, or there are even 4K monitors coming out in Q2 this year for around the $800 price point from companies like Lenovo and ASUS. ("not confirmed but", rumor has it that these affordable 4K monitors may only have TN panels though.) Hope this explains more. :)

This is why I always ask Toms Hardware before any major purchase. Youve been a great help, I really appreciate it. I'm going to go ahead and buy the 27" you recommended. I'm sure I'll be really happy with it, as it should be a significant upgrade over my 1080p monitor I'm using now
