Upgrading my RAM

So I just upgraded my pc with a GeforceGTX560 1GB GPU. Altough I can put the graphics of most games on high to ultra, the framerate is pretty much the same, even if I put the settings lower. I figured I needed new RAM since most games recommend at least 4GB while I only have 4GB. Of course I need some of that to run my OS too and while recording game footage or streaming I get a massive FPS drop. I have been thinking about selling my 2x 2GB DDR2 and buying 2x 4GB DDR2 instead. DDR3 is no option since my motherboard doesn't support it and getting a new one would also mean getting a new processor.

- Is there any 2x 4GB DDR2 RAM you guys reccomend?

These are my specs.
RAM: 2x 2GB DDR2
CPU: Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @2,5GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeforceGTX560 1GB
PSU: Corsair CX500 (500W)
OS: Windows 7 home premium 64bit

Where do I check this? I have a pre build Medion pc, the pc itself is around 4 years old but alot of it has been replaced so it still works like a charm.

This is all it says.

Ok, something is not properly reading in your system, its showing JEDEC value, which is not the actual frequency of RAM. But I think you have :

DDR2 800MHz CL5 RAM. But I am not sure, to make it sure try another program "CPU-Z" and look into the "Memory" Tab.

What I am confused about is the CL of RAM, it may be 5 or may be 6, and it matters most. Just confirm it. And sorry for the hassle.

It only tells me I have 4GB of RAM, really weird.... but is it necessary to know all of this just to replace with with 2x 4GB? And to get completely rid of my old RAM

Yes there's definitely something wrong with the MB censors, that's why its not picking the actual results. See this screen shot just an example :

http://www.reviversoft.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/CPU-Z_Memory1.png

1. Yes its absolute necessary to know the values of RAM like CL, CAS, etc, if the values don't match with current one and the one you intend to buy, either you will not get display or you will be getting BSOD's. Generally we don't want to mix RAM sticks with different brands, cause they might work or not.

2. If you want to get rid of your old RAM, then there is no hassle, just get 2 x 4 = 8GB of RAM from same brand and model.

And you may try your luck with this software as well : http://www.aida64.com/downloads

Good luck.

Thanks, but before trying that program, my ram isn't specifically from any brand since it's from a pre-build medion pc. All the stuff in there was medion hardware except for the GPU and the Proccessor. If I want to change the RAM by getting rid of the old RAM, Do I really need to get the same brand? Or can I just go ahead and get (for example) Corsair?

Ahhh, it seems I got you confused, yes you can use any RAM brands, if you completely get rid of the old RAM. Corsair, G.Skill are the good ones.

And for your kind information, no matter what RAM you use (branded non-branded), it will must have CL, CAS, and other values, you are not getting that values as the MB censors aren't working. This happens so don't worry, its normal. Good luck.
