Laptop Hard Drive Platter Swap?

So my sis gave me a 1TB toshiba hard drive. and i have a 40gb one lol. so the 1TB is not working, plugged it on an enclosure, making noises and computer doesnt recognize it.

wondering if i can swap platters so i can use the 1TB drive. thanks

well.. the 40gb is still working and 1TB is not.

maybe if I swap platters, i can use the 1TB as an external.

I also read that it's really risky though... they say you need a clean room or something.

did anyone ever succeed by swapping platters?
