I have a few questions,

If I buy a desktop with a dvd drive, could I take this out and replace it with a blu ray one no matter what the brand is etc? and also if i buy a blu ray drive, is there some sort of hardware i can put on it to make it a self inserting player? For example like car stereos you put the cd in half way and it goes in automatically?

Thanks,

Brandon

Yes you can take out the dvd drive and place a Blu ray drive in it's place. Make sure you install the drivers. And no there's isn't a software that changes the disc drive. From what I can find, the only Blu ray drives for computers that have trays for discs. They aren't feeders like for a car stereo.

Yes. The 5.25" optical drives all conform to industry standards. There will be no hardware conflicts.

Probably best to go with a straight slot loading Blu-ray Drive like this: SilverStone Slim Slot Load Blu-Ray Drive. Of course, this is a slim drive so you would need a drive bay adapter like this: Syba 5.25" Bay Adapter

I would check to make sure these components actually work together first, but in theory, what you're looking to do is feasible.
