So the card is going for $400 or more in places like amazon and newegg but a lot of places say the release price is about $300, it even says that in the amd website. Why are they so incredibly expensive? are they going to stay at $400 permanently?

Solution
the prices are so much higher because amd cards are far better for bit mining, I don't know what that is but I assume its some sort of data search that people use , ati has some huge advantage over nvida cards.

however if you wait a few weeks for second wave of cards to be avaible, the ones with the custom coolers on them, they should be in the sub 350 range, which in my opinion is far better then a 770 2gb card because 2gb will not always be enough memory for games, bf4 is already using more then 2gb, and the 770 4gb cards are priced too high, so maybe they will drop in price soon too. 770 and 280x are both very equal cards, but youll want more then 2gb. so well see how pricing goes.
