How old is it, and is it the original battery?

In this situation of my laptop's battery being compromised, should I contact sony
for a replacement battery or are there any other places to look for a good battery,
I've never replaced this battery at all and its the original.
and right now I can't really afford a new battery, so I don't know what to do.

You don't have warranty do you? If you don't then only way is to buy new battery, but if you going to buy,get one with warranty. For future don't keep your laptop plugged in all the time because it's killing your battery.

Sadly no unfortunately I don't have a warranty. I will and you are also right about not leaving the charger up to the laptop all the time, I was afraid this would happen. even before than my battery would drain pretty quickly I avoided getting a new one and than just leaving it plugged in and than taking it out.

I thank you for helping me with this situation, and appreciate your help, I will go get a new battery with a warranty
when I can.

Batteries do not last forever.
It is time to replace it.
Take the battery out so you can identify the part number.

One word of caution:
Sony replacement batteries will be more expensive than other equivalent batteries.
Sony might give you some sort of message that a replacement non sony battery is not suitable.
That is not exactly so; that is just a software message inducing you to spend more on their product.
If you do get such a message, google it to find out what it really means and how to fix the problem.

And... so far as I can tell, leaving the power connected will not damage a good battery. The charging is supposed to stop when the battery is full.
I have had no problems with my sony vaio, and I have left it plugged in for a very long time.
