I found the AMD FX8320
It's got twice the cores of the Intel i5 3350P

Should I go AMD or Intel i5 (or even i7 if I have monies)? I'm trying to save costs in my build and the AMD chip is cheaper, but I'd need to change the board to an AMD one and what's the upgrade path? From my other thread, I'm told there isn't one which means I'd have to change the board and processor in future

Depends on what game you want to play.. There are two kind of games:
unoptimized - favors Intel cause their cpu have faster cores,
optimized - works great on both platforms and in such 8core cpu will beat 4core.

Unoptimized: World of Tanks (2 cores, not even i 100% of use), Diablo3/SC2, Assassin's series
Optimized: Battlefield 3/4, Far Cry, Crysis
Note that in most cases pc games are optimized only for 2 cores so in such games i5 will be faster than 8core FX (still % usage of cores on fx will be much lower), but new games are made (at least should be) with support for more cores for example Watch Dogs, Thief.

None. It's first build, so all new parts. If I go AMD, I'll buy an AMD board to go with, if I buy Intel, I'll buy an Intel board to go with

What is your budget for CPU/MB/GPU and possibly PSU ?

Anything as long as the total build cost for hardware is as near £700 as possible. Though I'm not spending £100 on a board. I will if it doesn't push the cost of the hardware up too much. Don't think I can include software in the £700 as that would leave £543 for the hardware and the graphics card would take almost half that itself
