When did RAM costs go up?

In June 2013 I bought 8GBx2 value RAM to add to my 4GBx2 existing OEM RAM for a total of 24GB. It worked out awesome and cost me ~ $130 for the upgrade. For Christmas I got my son a very similar computer and am now looking to buy 8GB x 2 value RAM for the upgrade and the least expensive RAM is closer to $180. Almost a 40% increase in a 1/2 year.

When did RAM costs go up? Or were they always there and back last June I just happened to find a deal? Are all the holiday deals done so no deals exist today?

I'm wondering if I should just wait for a deal to pop up of whether costs will continue to increase for memory? Any trend observations?

the trend started around January 2013/Feb 2013(oddly enough, shortly after samsung left the desktop ram market)


for reference, I bought my sammies for ~32$(2x4gb) on 11/29/12, on 12/30/12 bought the same pair for my friend for about 42$
