Have installed Netgear R7000. Awsome router... so far. However, using the Broadcom wireles Utility on the 'site monitor' tab, I see a neighbor at 270Mhz on Channel 1 while mine is at 213Mhz on channel 8. Would switching to... say channel 3 boost my speed? FYI: there are others on channels 6, 10 & 11. Was on 11 but so was the other fella. thanks for your time. :) vs

Usually your best 2.4GHz channels are the non-overlapping channels (1, 6, and 11) but they can be over used already and occasionally 3 or 8 can help. I would suggest getting some 802.11ac adapters and using the expensive part of that new router -- the ac wireless.

I would take a "look" at the local wireless use with the free home version of inSSIDer from HERE to optimize channel selection.

Realbeast: Thank you for your quick response...:) In response to your msg:....'suggest getting some 802.11ac adapters and using the expensive part of that new router -- the ac wireless', I will assume you mean that I could get a (more than one?) 802.11ac adapter for my computer. Alas, I have an older laptop.

Realbeast: Oh yeah, there is more than one computer.... two laptops, and one desktop.... which is always an ongoing project....a work in progress. Thanks for your help. VERY much appreciated. You take care. Have an especially nice day. :) vgs
