I've never used the front audio so, no idea if ever worked before, but, I recently bought a pair of headphones with a mic for some gaming and would be great to be able to use them.
I have an Asus P5Q-E motherboard running Win7x64, I also have an older ASUS case. Case has 2 sets of wires, one lose, and a set that matches Asus' motherboard pins, so basically an all-in-one plug which is handy.
I have gone into the BIOS and switched the front audio back/forth between high def audio, and the AC'97 options but no change. When I go into speaker properties it shows rear jacks only. Device manager show high definition audio device, as well as the HDMI audio on my Nvidia card that I use for a media player. There are no "?" or "!" marks showing in device manager, everything is installed.
Any ideas?
Also, when I plug in headphones, should it detect they're in and disable the desktop speakers plugged into the rear or will both be active?
Thanks
EDIT - I opened up the computer and looked, and wiring does seem to match what's in the manual. Being an older case the wiring looks to be "Legacy AC'97 Compliant"... by default the motherboard was set to HD Audio, which is now set to AC'97, but no change. Do I need something installed?
