HDMI and DVI from GPU to the same monitor

Hi,

I currently have a HDMI cable from my 7870 (Tahiti) via a HDMI matrix switch to a Samsung monitor. Also from the GPU is DVI to a second monitor. My question is can I connect another DVI cable from the GPU to the Samsung monitor so as to skip the HDMI switch? And then just change source? The reason for this is I don't really like putting the signal through the switch permanently, but it is handy to have when playing Xbox/Sky on the Samsung or PC movies/games on LG TV and not having to swap cables...

Thanks for any responses.

Great, thanks. And there shouldn't be an issue with the PC/GPU thinking there are three monitors connected (with both HDMI and DVI to one monitor)?

Oh, I thought you were asking if you could eliminate the switch. Well, if you only are only using one input at each monitor (obviously), Windows should only see DVI at the 1st monitor and DVI at the 2nd monitor. And the card should not waste performance by dividing its signal 3 ways. Try it and see. Windows and CCC should only show 2 monitors in their respective control panels.

Yeah I would like to eliminate the switch 90% of the time. But leave the HDMI connected to the monitor (as it has 1x HDMI and 1x DVI port) for the times I want to route sky/Xbox to it. I'm getting a DVI cable today so yeah I'll just connect it and make sure CCC and windows only showing two monitors. Will let you know. Thanks
