I am trying to connect a 2.5 HDD to my desktop to transfer some files from my old laptop. I do not plan on keeping the hdd in my desktop permanently. I do not have the adapter bracket, so my question is will there be any issue if I don't screw the hdd into a bay? Does screwing it in just hold it in place or is there some grounding type function as well? Thanks :)

Solution
as long as it's either flat or straight up, you're fine. keep it stable during operation, and don't let it sit angled. other than that, A-OK. i'm currently running an OS from a 2.5" HDD that's standing on its side since I've yet to finish assembling other parts onto the build.
