I've been looking into upgrading my CPU, motherboard and RAM. After I found ideal parts, I realized there are different SATA cables. The motherboard has 6gb SATA connectors. I do not know what cables are being used in my PC currently, if they are 3 or 6gb. Could this new motherboard create incompatibilities with my hard drives or disc drive? Is there a way to look at the cables in my PC currently to see what SATA cables are being used? Does this even matter?
Thanks.

Cable pretty much look identical, but ASUS cables that come with their motherboards claim to support both speeds....

Your new motherboard should come with one or two Sata 6gbs cables.as mentioned before only an SSD will really need one to be connected to the Sata 3 port. Most of the 6gbs cables have just that stamped on the header of the cable for easy reference.
