CPU temp question

Hi i have recently got a new computer, it used the A8 6600k with integrated 8570d graphics, now i have been using HWmonitor to measure the temps of the cpu, when idle it read like 45 degrees and when running a game it got up to about 72 degrees, the max temp was meant to be 74 degrees, so i thought this wasn't correct.

I read on another forum that AMD overdrive is better for temps with this CPU as HWmonitor is inaccurate for it. AMD overdrive says that my CPU is at about 10-15 degrees when idle and about 45 - 55 degrees when a game is running, would overdrive be the correct one? I don't want to trust overdrive and fry my CPU, thanks in advance
Dan.

Update: My bios says around 37 degrees, so would HWmonitor be the correct one? Also I'm looking at the package temp in HWmonitor, is this the right thing to be looking at? It reaches as high as 80 degrees occasionally and the max temp is meant to be 74 so It's worrying me =/

The 10-15 degree idle temperature is for sure way incorrect, I have a seperate cpu and gpu and each is around 27-28 C idle with great cooling on them, so what that says is legitimately impossible. I would say that the BIOS is correct, and you should upgrade your cooling.

Thanks for your help =), coretemp and realtemp wouldn't work for me, but i found another piece of software called speccy, it's giving me the same readings as HW so i'm going to follow that, my temp is at 65-70 degrees when playing which is only a few degrees shy of the max, so I'm gunna have to upgrade like you said.

Another quick question... I'm planning on getting a dedicated graphics card soon, would that lower the temp a bit considering i'll no longer be using the integrated graphics?

I would say adding a dedicated GPU would probably reduce the workload on your APU and therefore reduce the temperature, but it's hard to say how much and if it will for sure. If I were you and wanted to get a powerful cheap aftermarket cooler, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo or Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus are great CPU cooling solutions, I run one with my FX-6350 and it averages about 52C a few hours under full load during Prime95 testing, so its a great air cooler for only $25-35! Another recomendation is maybe think about upgrading your APU to just a CPU after you get your GPU and have some extra cash, the CPU part of an APU is kind of weak due to the fact that they squeeze in graphics processing as well for a low price, but you should be fine for a while.
