I don't have the desktop yet so I can't get you a benchmark, but it is a Hitachi Deskstar 160GB 7200 rpm hard drive with only 8mb of cache it runs the older SATA II at 3Gbits/s. And my other Hard drive is a Western Digital 250GB 7200rpm with 8mb cache running SATA at 1.5Gbits/s.
I am honestly building the ultimate, lowest budget possible, desktop right now. I have spent a couple of weeks doing extensive research on what the best products for my needs would be and found AMAZING deals on great price/performance products. So I probably will just stick with the hard drives that i have for now until I have some more cash and am ready to upgrade a few things.
This will give you an idea of what I'll be doing.
This is only going to cost me initially $160!!!
(Items I have already)
Windows 7 x64
Apevia X-Jupiter full tower Case w/ a fan controller
Lite On CD/DVD Burner w/ labelflash
7200 rpm 160 and 250 internal hard drives
2x 1TB external hard drives
5x blue LED case fans
(Items I will be buying)
(APU) AMD A6 5400k (39.46 shipped!)
(Mobo) MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 (38.95 shipped!)
(RAM) 2 x 4GB GSkill 1600 Ripjaws (40.00!)
(PSU) Ultra 550LSP ($30)
This first items i would buy after would be first a $25-30 CPU cooler. Then a ~$80 7750 GPU. Then a 500gb-1TB Internal Harddrive. And finally I'd be willing to upgrade my APU to a A10 Richland or the up and coming Kaveri.
Also while we are on the topic of Hard Drives. If i spent $100 on a 120GB Solid State Drive would it significantly improve my performance in games and other applications?
