how do I port forward the static ip without messing up my internet connection?

So I'm making a bukkit server but only I can join it.After looking further into it, I've learned that I need to port forward.However when I set up a static ip the internet stops working and then I usually have to restore the settings before I changed any of the settings, any way I can fix/avoid this?

what kind of router do you have?

make sure you assign the router's LAN IP as a Gateway and DNS Server.

for example:

IP: 192.168.1.200
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gatway: 192.168.1.1
DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
