I was looking at processors for my new computer I'm building and I wasn't sure which one to go with. I understand that the 3570k can overclock but I heard it can shorten the lifespan of the cpu and I'm not a hardcore gamer so I really don't think ill ever be put in the situation to overclock... the 4570 is also the newest version and requires the newer mobos with lga 1150, which is good, right? As far as I know intel doesn't make anymore mobo that support 1155. the reason why I'm having trouble deciding is because I've heard that the 3570k is one of the best and I'm not sure if the 3570k or the 4570 has better performance non overclocked.

Djkills, passmark scores and performance per watt, did I miss the GAME results somehow? Or are you just linking pages that don't really help? (Not meaning to be rude, but sites like that one are basically useless.)

If you are sure you aren't ever going to OC then the 4570 will be fine. But as above, I'd rather have the 3570K so that I can if I need to later. The chips are one generation apart and it not like you are giving up a lot by going with the 3570K. Anything the z87 boards can do the z77 boards can do as well. And you might save some $$$ by buying a slightly older setup.

If you're not overclocking and don't project to do it (even in 2-3 years) then the 4570 would be a better choice for a better performance (2-3% faster at stock speed) but the 3570k would be a better option for future if you want to overclock later on the run as a 3570k at 4ghz will destroy easily a 4570 and even a stock 4670k...

it all depends on your decision, personnaly, i would take the 3570k for the same price as the motherboards will now tends to be cheaper as they're now clearing "Z77" boards and for 2-5% max performance lose but Overclocking capabilities gain, my choice would be that...

That said, i've always overlcocked all my rigs and will always do it as i consider that as "free" performance gain...

If you want to learn overclocking, try to read some tutorials and decide if you want to do it on your own rigs, maybe you'll discover a new "hobby" :p

If not then, like i said, buy the 4570 :)

PS: the 3570k is only the best if you're overclocking it to the balls (as it can take it easily to 4.5Ghz even if you have the worst chip on earth...)
