Hi there I am looking into upgrading my PC by getting a new processor. Currently though my motherboard is only capable of putting out 95W and the graphics card i have been looking at AMD FD8320FRHKBOX FX-8320 Eight-Core 3.5GHz AM3+ Processor (this is the link to the processor http://) would not work in my current motherboard. The new motherboard I am looking at the Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 AM3+ Motherboard (link) http://would be capable of running it but now I am worried if the new motherboard would be able to work or fit in my asus cg1330 along with the other components in my computer such as RAM and my graphics card. Help would be greatly appreciated along with any tips or alternative ideas.

I would suggest a cheaper motherboard UNLESS you are going to overclock. Then Sabertooth is recommended.
Also, another thing to consider is aftermarket cooling for CPU. CPU gets cooler and fan is quieter but also note that aftermarket coolers today need between 16-18 cm room towards the sidepanel. Do you have that much space in your case?
The stock AMD cooler is noisy and doesn't cool all that well.

I had a case from around year 2000, a Chieftec Fulltower. The fan wouldn't have fit in there.

I just upgraded to AMD fx-8350 and the motherboard is a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P. I can't overclock at all with that motherboard. Mobo just can't handle the extra power needed. The fan I use is a Noctua NH-U12S . CPU temp never goes above 45 Celsius...
Honestly, for most people (especially gamers), the FX-6300 is all you need. That ASUS Sabertooth motherboard is pure overkill IMO. At MOST I would recommend a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5. I'm a hardcore gamer and I only got my FX-8350 because I got a deal on it that I just couldn't refuse otherwise I'd have an FX-6300. I use the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 because I don't see the point of more than 2 video cards in Crossfire (or SLI for that matter). You should be just fine with 8GB of DDR3-1333 or 1600 and the motherboard should fit fine in your tower because it looks like a standard ATX tower.

well worst comes to worst all you have to do is buy a cheap computer case off newegg/amazon like a cheap rosewill mid tower. That cpu and motherboard will be fine together, you might even need a new power supply if you're just trying to put this into a cheap prebuilt desktop. At least a corsair builder 500w or if it's sold out, that new EVGA 500w PSU

The fan I use is a Noctua NH-U12S . CPU temp never goes above 45 Celsius, not even when I run 6 instances of Everquest 2 (100% load on all cores). And I can't even hear the fan.

I have an HD7870 Radeon. No problem with fitting graphics card or memory. I have 4 memories so the banks are filled. Another note about memories. Mobo might say it supports 1866 Mhz but that is ONLY for ONE memory module. Better to go with 2x or 4x 1600 Mhz in my opinion.

Just for reference, this is the case I bought: http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=704504&fid=6&lan=us
Note that under Specifications it says Max CPU cooler Height 17 cm. Look for that if you buy a new case. It should be at least 17 cm, 18 is better. Then any aftermarket CPU fan will fit.

Hope that answers your questions. I had the same problem as you do. Old mobo, only supported 95W. I upgraded mobo, CPU, Ram and case.

I have 12 gigs of Ram but that is purely because 6 instances of Everquest 2 use around 9-10 gigs. In normal gaming, 8 gig would suffice. Remember, Windows uses 1-2 gigs, the games maybe 2 or 3 gigs of ram. You DON'T want Harddisk Swapping, that makes everything lag.

sabertooth is overkill unless you want the top tier..and if you're spending that much money on just a motherboard plus an AMD cpu, you'd have enough money for an i5 cpu and a cheaper z77/z87 mobo.

you could overclock decently if you don't care about crossfire/sli on an asus 970 r2.0 (not the LE version...sucks and no heatsinks on vrm), or if you want crossfire/sli get the 990fx asus r2.0
