I just purchased G.Skill RipjawsX 8GBx1 1600Mhz F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL few months ago and I am planning to purchase another G.Skill RAM again same as the RAM I have, so that my system will be upgraded to 16GB. I know that what I purchase is a Single Channel RAM since "S" for F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL stands as Single Channel. I am using an Asus P8H77-M LE Motherboard supports Dual Channel Memory. The question is, since I am planning to purchase another Single Channel Memory again "F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL" the same as the Memory I have few months ago. Does it affect the performance of my system using 2 pcs. Single Channel Memory F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL since I am using Dual Channel Memory Motherboard? Or should I purchase "F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL" where "D" stands as Dual Channel Memory and sell the old 8GB I have? Is it because I am using a Single Channel Memory RAM I can't upgrade to 16GB RAM and since it's only for Single Channel and not for Dual Channel? What I mean is that, can I add/upgrade another G.Skill RipjawsX 8GB 1600Mhz F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL Single Channel Memory to make it 16GB (2x8GB) even if I am using a Dual Channel Memory Motherboard? Does a Dual Channel Memory Motherboard supports 2 pcs. Single Channel Memory? 2 pcs. G.Skill RipjawsX 8GBx1 1600Mhz F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL? Thank you so much!

Actually the S stands for single or 1 stick, DRAM doesn't care if used in Single dual, tri or quad as long as all the sticks will play together, two sticks of the same same amount of DRAM can work in dual channel fine.....if you have any problems getting the sticks to play together and you might, give me a shout, DRAM sort of a specialty of mine

Tradesman1 this is the answer based on the GSkill Technical Support.

Dear Customer,

The “S” stands for single module per kit.

So if you are upgrading to 16GB, we recommend using a matching set kit, instead of mixing your existing module with a new module. Mixing memory modules or kits may result in compatibility issues, such as unable to boot or unable to perform at the rated settings.

Therefore, it’s highly recommended to upgrade to the F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL kit. “D” stands for dual module kit. The modules in a single matching set kit will already have been tested for you to ensure compatibility within the kit.

If you have any further questions or if we missed anything, please feel free to contact us at any time. Thank you for choosing G.SKILL!

Best Regards

Mark

Hi

My motherboard has 4 (Quad) RAM slots & I currently have 2 RAM Modules installed with model number F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL. I’m looking at expanding my PC RAM to 32 GB by adding two F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL Modules. Will this combination work? Dual F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL & two single F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL. Greatly appreciate any advise.

Thanks
