I have been thinking of adding a second OS on my laptop and would like to know the forum's opinion on what to run. I am assuming that a version of Linux would be best. I have NO knowledge/experience with Linux, I have a good handle on windows(up to 7) and have knowledge of dos based machines from my youth-no problem using command prompts-not gui dependent.
Can you all recommend a suite/version/package of linux that would be conducive to a linux newb and would play well with the following specs:
Win 7 pro(64)
4gig ram
intel i5
onboard invidia gpu
300 gig hd

this machine is just the web surfer for the house that my wife and myself use daily. the hd stays at about 65% or more open space

thanx in advance for your responses

Ubuntu is the most user friendly to learn for a complete novice.
Mint, based on Ubuntu has a more windows feel and includes a few more proprietary drivers. You can get them in Ubuntu itself but they don't include proprietary software at the install.
If you don't like the look of one you can switch it to the other easily with a simple download.

For what you want to do you may never use the command line.
