Okay so here is the answer to your question. Yes and no. The sockets appear the same and the cpus will fit into each other, but if you are looking to upgrade your cpu in your laptop you need to make sure that your bios includes the processor that you are changing to in the whitelist. This is because the bios will not recognize the cpu and therefore the computer will be worthless. If you can give me the make and model of your computer and the bios version I am sure that I can find a list of compatible cpus online.

actually i already changed my laptop's processor into i5 480m but i'm not contented so im planning to change it again into higher generation.
