So here's the deal: my i3 is a bottleneck to my system and I have been meaning to upgrade for a while just haven't gotten around to purchasing it. Of course gaming is all that matters. So I can get an i5 and put a very small over clock like tops 4ghz as I want it to stay quiet or I can get a Xeon which is basically an i7 3770. I am wanting the Xeon because of the hyperthreading which seems to work in multiplayer better than a small overclock. Also I'm getting into some other computer stuff like programing so the Xeon may be better for that. Btw it is compatable with my motherboard. Here's the xeon: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=pgrUUsanPMjL2QXErIDADQ&url=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx%3FItem%3DN82E16819117286&cd=3&ved=0CDQQFjAC&usg=AFQjCNFv6N7MZ3DiDnzPCDiD508sPLwR-w&sig2=GTfAxA9uYxYrUoKuNzWTpQ

There is so much misinformation in this thread. The E3 1230v2 is an i7 without IGP. It is indeed suitable for gaming and is an 1155 cpu and will work in pretty much any B75/h77/z77 motherboard in existence. Hyperthreading has shown to be beneficial in games that can make use of more than 4 threads. Examples of this are Crysis 3 and BF4 on 64 man campaign mode. If you are not overclocking, an E3 1230v2, or v3 if you want to go Haswell, is a nice chip for the money.

FYI, a friend of mine used to run an X3220 and I had an X3210 back in the core 2 days. They performed just as well as their C2Q counterparts and costed less. People that think Xeons are just for servers and workstations have no clue as to what they are talking about.
Hyperthreading does not help in gaming. Stock for stock the xeon would be better since it .3ghs faster, but since you are going to overclock the i5 to 4ghz the i5 would be better as you wont be able to overclock the xeon other then the factory boost.

a xeon IS an i7 3770 that's rebranded as xeon. Please realize that before you post stuff and look dumb. I am pretty well set on a xeon I just wanted some other opinions and it looks like out of the people that even know what it is they say go for it which is what my research was pointing towards.
