Hi guys. I know, this question has been asked millions of times but I really need some help.

I recently got a brand-new XFX R9 280X Black Edition OC, and thought I would be able to max all my games with 60fps solid (which I should be able to do with this card).

I can't max DiRT Showdown, or GRID 2, or NFS Most Wanted 2012 without massive framerate drops and lag. Any ideas why?

My full PC specs:

CPU: Intel i5 4670 (3.4GHz, TB 3.8GHz)
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
HDD: 1.3TB
GPU: XFX R9 280X Black Edition OC
PSU: XFX 650w (forgotten full name).

According to Game Debate I should be able to max both games.

I also get occasional 'Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.' errors too.

I'm wondering if I have a defective card or just driver problems.

Any advice would be awesome :wahoo:

What I think your issue is is something to do with the drivers. I know that amd has recently released new drivers that have caused issues with tons of games. Try downgrading the drivers to the previous version and see if that fixes the issue.

Thanks. But will older versions of Catalyst work with the newer R9 series? Don't want to uninstall and reinstall to find out they're not compatible.

I tried the new beta drivers, and the old 12.8 ones and no difference (the 12.8 drivers crashed).

Any more ideas?
