I consider myself technically competent, I have worked in IT and Graphic design so I know my way around a computer. One of the few things I have never done is overclock a CPU in the bios, I have overclocked many GPU's in Afterburner and GPUtweak.

Today I will be installing a NZXT Respire T20 (i wanted the T40 but it wouldn't fit arounf my RAM heat syncs) This T20 should add quite a bit more cooling to my 3570k .

My target max temps with the cooler (after OC) would preferably be 75-82 max, and I would like to keep Intel speedstep enabled.

Would one of you friendly ladies or gentleman with superior intellect walk me through the process (i.e.) all the (free) programs I will need settings I need to make, or possibly just a link. Step by step instructions to make in the BIOS

Please no comments regarding the inferiority of my MOBO, it is what it is and commentary on its quality would be superfluous and counter productive.

Thank you kindly, you help will not go unappreciated

P.S. I don't need to have my hand held, just a mentoring and guide to lead me to pertinent information.

4.2-4.5 is a reasonable expectation.

I used to use prime95. It works ok. But different stress testers use different methods that exercise different parts of a cpu. Intel burn test might be another.

I have changed to using OCCT because it accumulates a graphic log of the important metrics like temperatures and voltages.
It will stop the test if heat becomes excessive.

A "K" is simple.

In the bios, simply raise the multiplier from 34 gradually. Leave all other settings on auto.

Test using OCCT.

This will give you a safe and conservative OC.
If you are seeking maximum record level overclocks, it becomes more complicated.

Do you think this will get me from 3.4ghz to 4.2ghz/4.5ghz within my acceptable temp ranges. I also recall hearing about some simple drive settings made in the boot drive properties to prevent problems from crashes while stress testing, do you know what they might be. I also hear most people use Prime 95 for stress testing does OCCT do that plus more?
