Right so here's the deal, I upgraded to Windows 8 2-3 months ago & I have regretted it ever since, biggest waste of £50 I've ever spent :p. There's just problems everywhere with this OS & I've given it chance after chance & spent hours among hours troubleshooting on it & I finally give up, I'm asking the community about my problem instead:

SOMETIMES & only sometimes (like 70% of the time) when I start up my computer, it loads fine, I click on my account, I type my password, I sign in. It goes into my desktop, all the icons are there, everything appears normal but when I click SOME programs like for e.g.:

Internet Explorer, Firefox, Control Panel, even right clicking the taskbar at the bottom to open up task manager, none of them open up.

After sitting around & waiting for 2 minutes, I click firefox again & EVERYTHING I clicked opens up at the SAME time.

On my most recent start up (after disabling some programs from startup) I received a new error saying something along the lines of: "Please enable 32 bit color <something> was unable to start" (I couldn't remember exactly, something to do with 32 bit color).

Everything was working perfectly when I had Windows 7 & I had a single GPU. After I decided to upgrade to Windows 8 & put in another GPU (the same exact one & model) & SLI them, things went haywire, sometimes I would log into Windows & nothing would respond, I would restart & it wouldn't be there anymore. Sometimes I log into Windows & the screen is black but the cursor is moveable. When I try to troubleshoot this through Windows cd it says the Hard drive is locked & when I try to system restore, it gives me another error message saying "System restore could not find the offline boot volume"

So I reverted back to a single gpu & the problems with the programs not opening upon startup are still there.

OS: Windows 8.1
Motherboard: Asus RoG
CPU: i7 3770k
GPU: Single/Dual Asus Nvidea GeForce GTX 660 Ti's (not overclocked)
SSD: Samsung Pro 256gb
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengence

Good aftermarket cpu cooler, lots of air to flow inside the case, everything is clean of dust, good PSU & the rest, this is a personally built computer.

I read somewhere it was an Asus soundcard 32bit delaying other programs from starting but i couldn't find it in the start up under task manager.

Up until now, I have solved the problem by simply restarting & praying it doesn't come up as I haven't had the time to find a solution.
