Hello ppl, I want to ask about connectors 1 x 4 and 1 x 3. I bought new cooler that have 1 x 3 pin connector so I can use and plug it only for PWR fan one. Now the cooler spins 100 % and makes horrible sound. Does the PWR fan connection should damage my ASUS M5A97 PRO mobo? Original cooler had 4 pin connection and that was connected to the CPU Fan connector(s) (4 -pin).
- The connection is Processor cooler, but the temperatures seems okay.

Solution
Typically, the PWR FAN header is designed for PSUs that have a separate fan cable. Usually the MB BIOS has no control for that header to vary the voltage for speed control. It always runs at +12V, or full speed. If you can, plug the fan into the 3-wire CHA FAN header. That one usually has voltage control for speed. The 4 pin CHA FAN header probably used PWM control to vary the speed and won't provide any voltage control needed for 3 wire fans.
