I build a computer for my brother 2 years ago. It "died" yesterday. He took it to a pc repair shop, which told him either his mother board or cpu is bad. (I could have told him that and saved the $70.00 exam). I live a few hours away, so I could not look at it, but will make the repair for him.

The PC has a i5 2500 Sandy Bridge and a P8P67 Pro Asus. Should I replace the damaged part or upgrade both?

He does not game--It is a work pc where he uses Photoshop, heavy excel, has 4 browsers/everal tabs each at any given time, 3 monitors. He does not need overclocking, and the computer has been flawless for him for the last 2 years.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks guys! He has a samsung SSD to run the pc and 1tb for storage. I was looking at the i7-4770k + ASUS Z87-PRO on Microcenter, but I have to go to pick it up. I told him around 400, but I will probably add a better cooler and maybe mild overclock

Woops...@OP gave a brain dead response...lol
Haswell you need a new MoBo...go for Ivy bridge.
The 3330p should be around the same price and fit into the MoBo's socket.
But I would update both to eliminate any possible problems that the MoBo could have.
