CENTURION. this will be my entry for the 2013 Cooler Master Case Mod Competition. i submitted it, not to compete and diplay high-end hardware, but to showcase my build to inspire those who feel that they cannot mod their RIG because they have cheap parts, no money, no sponsors, no tools or what not. all the mods on this build, the decals, the acrylic bends etches and cuts, the paint job and etc.. were all done 100% manually with only a DIY scoring knife a.k.a "thing", some table clamps, a cigar torch and oodles upon oodles of patience, creativity and pure passion and dedication to the art of MODDING.

it's named Centurion because the word is synonymous to Black and White and like a true soldier, with or without armor, it is strong and mighty. a lot of thought went into this build. i wanted it to look beautiful inside and outside, with or without the PSU and 3.5/5.25 side bay covers. i apologize for the horrible pics, i am no photographer. =)

big thanks to Icemodz.com and Mundi Valur, for sponsoring me with his beautiful sleeving work and lighting. thank you also to Kasper Kragh for helping me with the Centurion banner and emblem.

That's a mighty fine looking rig and to think and see that you've only run the thing on air when in today's realm of modding everyone's switched up to watercooling+acrylic tubing then this is a brilliant feat :)

Photographer/shmotographer - those are really nice pics :) Oh yeah how many others are you running up against?

well there are quite a few other amazing ones in the competition, with all the fancy stuff.. so i got no chance in that. i just joined to inspire people who are just busy looking at other rigs, and not appreciating theirs enough.

the tools i used to make it into CENTURION are just (apart from the dremel):

so really, it's not about what you have. i mean yes, if you can afford better tools, better hardware and what not, that would be great. but even with the best equipment, without the passion and creativity.. your mod/build will not be unique. it will be just "cookie cutter" stuff.

anyhow, i love what the outcome was for this mod.. that's why i am trying to showcase it. and what better place to do that than in a competition. it would be nice to win.. since i could use the prizes for my next build, but im far from that. hehehe.

wow. thank you. =) well really, i have been modding for a few people i know, on and off. reason why i dont do it for money is because i wont be able to take my time to do the project because i will have the owner wanting me to finish it all the time. i cant produce well like that. anyhoot, here is a mod i did for a friend.. (keep note: no money involved) so i had to work with the extra materials i had lying around. it was a really cheap case. no cable management room at the back.. not even 1/4 of an inch. and very thin metal. so.. this is what i came up with.

i do believe you should post some "before" and "after" photos of your main entry. that would better paint a picture as to what you needed to do to create your entry.

i agree, basic modding really is not that hard. just a little paint, hand sleeving your cables and perhaps a decorative piece here or there can make a world of difference in terms of appearance for honestly not a huge amount of cash. the biggest investment is just time planning out what you want to do and the time doing it (sleeving each and every cable can be a bit time consuming)

there have been soo many revisions of this build, i cant even remember i did them sometimes when i look at my pictures. so let's just start from the first, then now:

that definitely provides alot more insight.

i can definitely see what you did. now.

looks quite a bit better i will have to say. its amazing what some contrasting paint, some basic mods, cable sleeving and a little design work can do.

almost makes me want to do something with my own system but its really not the most ideal case (see link on sig). while definitely an awesome case chock full of quality the 800d really isnt the best design for open airflow so i wouldnt want to mod it. if i could get a half decent offer for it i'd probably trade down to a c70 or 750d or other case with better airflow and this time sleeve the whole thing and make it real nice. but i dont think i'll be able to get much for a 800d even in great condition (or i could be wrong...)

i never said there wasnt alot i could do with it. you are right it is a very nice case. very solid and well built.

however, i'm no longer needing a case like the 800d and would prefer something with some better airflow options at the expense of a little more noise. this is why i said i would be thinking of offloading it. i would rather spend time modding/sleeving a new case which fit my current wants/needs instead of spending time on the current case which i'm no longer content with.

dont get me wrong its not a bad case... i just have differents wants/needs than when i originally bought it back in 2010.
