ASUS Anti-Surge Protection rebooting system during gaming

I recently built a PC mostly for media consumption and gaming. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but my Asus motherboard's Anti-Surge Protection keeps rebooting the PC seemingly specifically during gaming and graphically demanding tasks. Examples include it rebooting after about 30 minutes of playing Deus Ex HR and after about a minute of running 3DMark11. When rebooted, it shows me a BIOS message saying Anti-Surge had detected an unstable power supply, and allows me to boot into Windows by pressing F2. Everything then runs as normal again.

I've done a bit of digging around and I've seen that this appears to be a common problem. I'm somewhat reluctant to switch Anti-Surge off however, in case the apparent power surges damage any components. All of the parts of the system are brand-new.

Here's the spec:

OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit
CPU: AMD FX-6300 Black Edition (3.5Ghz)
Motherboard: ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
RAM: Ballistix 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 x1
GPU: Sapphire HD 7790 GDDR5 1GB
PSU: XFX PRO550W

I'm a bit lost, as there doesn't appear to be a definitive answer; some suggest turning Anti-Surge off, some suggest completely replacing the PSU. As far as I know, XFX are a reliable brand and the one I bought was sealed in new packaging.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've seen a couple of these threads now....

The Asus Anti-Surge circuit is likely too sensitive. It is completely safe to disable it. Your power supply and motherboard both have hardware in place to deal with most all surges without having Asus's extra anti-surge circuit. And you could also go buy a UPS with better surge/voltage protection if you are left feeling vulnerable... but you should be fine disabling it in BIOS.

I thought that'd be the case, so I went ahead and switched it off in the BIOS and let it run 3DMark11 again. It went about 5 minutes running completely fine and then powered down without warning.

It's perhaps worth noting that I'm currently only running one fan at the moment as I'm waiting on a splitter cable in the post. Is it possible this is happening due to overheating, or am I looking at a dodgy PSU? It's nothing to do with my surge protector strip as my monitor is plugged into that along with my PC, and that doesn't power down.
