Why can't my PC run Battlefield 4 smoothly on LOW settings?

My specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 970 3.50GHz
Sapphire Radeon 7870 (drivers updated)
8GB RAM
Windows 7 64bit

I get 30-40 fps on Battlefield 4 (32 players - any type of game mode) even at the lowest settings. On high it starts to stutter.

Your cpu is the bottleneck depending on your motherboard i would upgrade to an 8350 but if its a non 990fx board and you would need a new motherboard aswel id just suggest getting an I5 4670k or a 3570k depending on whats cheaper and youll see way higher frame rates

@COLGeek

I don't know much about computers but what does a chipset have to do with my computers performance?

@Others
I'm planning to upgrade my CPU to a AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core but I have a M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 motherboard. Will it support AMD FX-8350?

4670k is better for gaming than the 8350... and no it only supports intel chips not AMD. And this is an OC mobo/cpu so if you don't plan to overclock at all you could go with something like this:

I wouldn't throw away the CPU that fast. As mentioned earlier, I think your PC should be able to run the game a lot better. First question: what resolution do you get these resultst with? I think that you should get 1080P @ medium settings with a decent framerate. On this page, you'll see that your processor isn't that low in the CPU Gaming hierarchy: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html

I would do some software tweaking before buying new components:
1. Update the chipset drivers (check your mainboard) and
2. flash the firmware of your mainboard if needed!
3. Check if the Ram & Video settings in your bios/efi are set correctly.
4. Check if CPU/GPU usage is being killed by other components (virusscan for example, or other intensive background tasks). Clean your OS or even do a clean install if necessary.
5. Try lowering Anti Aliasing settings a little bit (For examnple: if it's manually set in the windows driver settings to override game settings and do 16x FSAA, that's indeed going to be a FPS killer)

I'm almost sure that other issues are causing the problems here. Buying will solve the problem, but doing some tweaking might also do the trick.

Updated chipset drivers can help your CPU and GPU operate more efficiently and effectively with all system components, including each other. Updating them can do no harm whatsoever and may improve performance.

I'm pretty sure this has something to do with frame times. I experience this once every other blue moon but you seem to be dealing with a more severe case. I would just try to make sure that all of your drivers are up to date, and once you have done this, then you can think about switching out hardware.

I tried overclocking my CPU from 3.50GHz to 3.80GHz and I noticed some improvement with the framerates. The problem is my CPU goes up to 66 degrees. Is the Saidon 120v good enough for my CPU right now? And will it be able to handle the 8350? Because Im planning on upgrading my CPU to that.
