Hi, my PC is about 2 weeks old and it has started to freeze when shutting down. It doesn't happen all the time, but a lot of the time. I have to turn it off manually by holding down the power button. It's getting really annoying and i think it even led to one of my photoshop files getting corrupted. Please can anyone advise how to fix this or find the cause of the problem? :)
Sytem specs:
FX8350
ASUS M5A97 R2.0
Corsair vengeance 2x4GB DDR3 @1600MHz
Gigabyte R9 270X
XFX PRO 550W PSU

All hardware is new, except the RAM, which i got off my brother. And yes i built it myself and installed a purchased version of windows after building the PC. Thanks for the reply and I'll pay attention to the HDD light when it happens again.

Just for giggles remove one of your ram modules and run your system normally. If it locks up again swap out the other ram module and run it again.
HDD or SSD? How big?
Are you Overclocking anything? CPU, GPU?

Haha, I have a 1TB seagate barracuda HDD and no SSD and no nothings overclocked. However my BIOS auto sets the ram to CL11 and 1333MHz although it should be 1600MHz and CL9, does it do this to make it stable or something?
When i first built my PC i set it to 1600MHz and put the voltage to 1.6 (then the CL was already automatically 9 although now it's not)

Thanks :) I'm currently using one stick of ram and have been able to shut it down a few times without any problems... Going to try using the other stick now. If they both work fine i'll try and fix the timings and speeds and then see if the problem reoccurs.

I think both sticks work fine on their own :) It might've been the way i was increasing the ram speed. I'll try using some other articles to fix the CL and clocks and then see if i still don't get the problem
