I have been planning on building my first gaming computer and as of late I have been indescivie on buying either a i5-4670k or simply going ahead and putting out another $100 for the i7-4770k

Overall for gaming would the i7-4770k be worth the extra cost or will an i5-4670k be more than enough?

Solution
The i5-4670k would be the better gaming CPU. The 4770k is a bit overkill and the extra $100 would not give you better performance.

For the vast majority of games, an i5 is plenty. Games like Crysis 3 and BF4 in 64 man campaign mode benefit from HT. Even then, generally, the extra money saved by getting an i5 means more to spend on a better GPU vs what you could get with an i7 for the same amount of money.
