Batteries are recharged in an electrochemical process, which takes a lot more time that some photons moving through space.

It would be true if charging was a 100% efficient process - meaning going from your outlet, through the charging device/cable, through metal components, and to the part that holds the energy there was zero losses in energy (by way of heat, etc.). But no device is 100% efficient.
