Adding win7 - GPT partition style error

Hi,
I am getting an error message "windows cannot installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style".
i have created a new 300G partition on my Thinkpad T440 Win8.1. I have decided to keep Win8 as backup (40GB) until Win7 install is successful. Secureboot is disabled, legacy boot is enabled, fast reboot disabled, new partition is NTSF formatted...

any advice?

When you booted the Windows 7 disc, did you select UEFI boot or Legacy boot? The last time I reinstalled Windows on my desktop (specs in my sig), I kept getting that error until I payed closer attention to what I was selecting in the boot menu and realized I had the option to boot in UEFI mode or Legacy mode in the boot menu. Booting in Legacy mode would give me that error.
