finally got my computer up and running and want to know what is the rule of tumb for running two different rams sticks. i got a patriot 1x8gb 1600mz and 2x4gb gskill ripjaws x this was a 16gb set but i only have two.

Solution
Was thinking dual channel (No mobo listed, majority are Dual), 1600 sticks in 1-2 (from CPU) and the 8GB stick in slot 3 = 8GB in each channel - that's dual channel - if it is a X58 (tri channel then A1 a 4Gb B1 a 4GB and C1 the 8GB, if it does flex then 12GB total in Tri and 4GB in single channel, else run it in the dual channel setup (4gb in A1 and A2, and 8GB in B1)
