Hi, my CPU is unlocked and stable showing AMD Phenom II x4 B50. I have 4 Mbytes ram. I have an ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard. I would like to use the 64 bit version of Windows 7. Would it be advisable to add ram?

Solution
64-bit Windows will run on about any processor newer than Intel Pentium 4 (late-model Pentium 4's are 64-bit) or AMD Athlon XP.

I think you mean "4 Gbytes RAM" instead of 4 Mbytes. You wouldn't be able to run anything newer than Windows 95 with 4 Mbytes of RAM.

4 Gbytes should be enough for Windows 7 64-bit (minimum is 2 Gbytes), but if you can afford it and have the space on the motherboard, I'd recommend upgrading to 8 Gbytes.

The only reason why you would run Windows 7 64bit is to access ram *beyond* 4 gigs.

If you don't have more than 4 gigs then running windows 7 64bit is pointless...

But yes, you can run it, even with 4 gigs.

I hope you mean 4GB the days of O/S getting by on 4MBs are long gone. For 4GBs yes you can run Windows 64 bit it should run some applications and programs better, but to truly get the most out of it I would add another 4GB to up you to 8GB.

I've run identical systems one with a 64bit O/S and one with a 32bit O/S both with 4GB. The 64bit version out performed the 32bit hands down.
