Laptop connects to internet but desktop wont

I know this is the wrong section, but im starting up a computer repair service, and The first pc I am working on needed a new power supply which I replaced. But now im running a virus scan on it free of charge (At 27 so far) but it wont connect to the internet at all.

I got avast on it because i have my laptop with me. Here is the odd part. I am at their house, as this is a friend of my fathers, and my laptop is runningf fine on it (besides a broken backspace bar) but the desktop and their laptop wont connect either.

Any ideas on this, my lappy is working fine, and so is my phone but the desktop wont. I have switched out cables and whatnot several time with no lucki (both are hardwired bt the way) Could it just be the viruses that are blocking the connection.

Ping -a 127.0.0.1 results in a positive return ping, as well as ip confiog /all
I am logged into the router on my laptop

I kinda had the same simular problem. I could get on the internet with my laptop but not on my desktop. What it turned out to be was Norton anti virus. For some reason Norton was not allowing me to connect to the internet. All I did was uninstall Norton and I was able to connect to the internet again. Once I was able to connect to the internet I was able to reinstall Norton again and I have had no issues since. A really quick way to check is to start the desktop up in safe mode. If you can connect to the internet in safe mode I would be pretty sure its your anti virus software acting dumb.

you could just save their pics, video, music to an external and fresh install their OS and get the drivers, seems alot more simple than boggling your mind all day about why it won't connect, could be lots of stuff, but why complicate things?

That would be my first choice, but lets just say they are the peak of redneck (Because I live in the moutains) and they dont have the OS or any packaging that came with the PC. So it would be more of a hassle and more expensive to do an OS wipe and re install.
