Dwn: WIN 7 pro to SSD from HD

I've upgraded this computer twice now. It had Win xp and I upgraded to WIN vista then did an upgrade where I downloaded win 7 pro from the internet and was sent a backup disk. I'm wanting to upgrade from a 70gb HD to a 1tb SSD. I've read where a clean install is better than cloning, but does anyone know if it would be possible for me to just install using the backup disk on the SSD? OR is it possible to just transfer everything to the SSD? (I've currently run into some issues so I've recently done a install erasing all my personal files.. Thanks for any help on this!!)

(somehow I think I just answered half my question lol) Thanks!

  1. Going from a 70GB HDD to a 1TB SSD, any of the multiple cloning solutions should work, mostly
I always recommend a fresh install on the SSD, but you can try it.

As always, have a copy of your personal, critical data elsewhere and offline, just in case.
  2. Thanks... is it as simple as hooking the two together and copying everything over (I'm thinking in terms of drag and drop)

    Noooooo.
You need to use a specialized application for that. CloneZilla, DriveImageXML, Macrum Reflect, etc.
