Here's the biggest problem that I can see - You're trying to run high-end games on a laptop. The Core i7 doesn't help you with gaming and I'll explain the ATi Radeon numbering system for you:
1st Digit - Generation
2nd Digit - Purpose Designation (9-Flagship, 8-Enthusiast, 7-High-end, 6-Mid-level gaming, 5-Low-end gaming, 4-No gaming)
3rd Digit - Position in current designation family
4th Digit - 0, means nothing
Suffix M - Mobile, performance significantly degraded in favour of power efficiency
So, you have a weak mobile card that is designated for mid-range mobile gaming and you're trying to play games that would be considered high-end or enthusiast-level games even on desktops. Because this is a laptop, there's no way to rectify the situation except to possibly try playing these games on the lowest graphics settings possible or at least, if you're using the highest settings, lower them to medium. As for Rome: Total War, I doubt that this game was EVER intended for laptop play as its CPU requirements are tremendous because of all the movement of the enemy units. Another issue is that laptop cooling is far inferior to desktop cooling simply due to the laws of physics and thermodynamics. Once they get hot, it takes a good long time for them to cool down. You might consider getting a laptop cooling pad.
