Cpu speed dropping constantly

Hello guys, I'm here today seeking some help. I have an AMD FX-6300 6 core CPU and an ASRock 970 Extreme 3 MB. In the past few weeks, I have noticed my pc being a bit sluggish in gaming. For a while I thought it was my GPU dying out. After further investigation, I see my CPU is dopping from its average 3400MHz and 17.0 Ratio down to 1300MHz with a ratio of 4. Any idea what can be causing this? I thought it may have been software reading the CPU wrong but all other programs are showing drops as well. I am kind of scared to test the processor seeing as it may be on its way out. Any idea what can be going on? Any information is appreciated.

Well, I ran the tests and they came out fine. Asked a buddy of mine if he had any idea what was going on and he told me to run Malware Bytes. It appears something was in my system but I cleared it and it seems to be back to normal. In fact it's actually running a but faster and as before with no temp change. Thanks to all that helped me out today!

The CPU running too hot would be my first thought.
Do you have a way to monitor the temperatures? (get CPUz if you need to) And clean off the CPU cooler with compressed air.
Let us know what the temps are like.

That would be my guess too (CPU temp)...maybe the fan is caked with crud (or the bearings are worn out) and the fan can't spin up past a certain RPM. I'd run speedfan and then (carefully) something like Prime95 after you get that fan cleaned off to see what happens to the RPM.

I have cpu z and a program supplied by asrock that shows temps and allows fan control. My CPU temp is 35c at idle and about a peak of 45 under heavy load. I recently burnt out my cpu fan but was replaced same day as well as cleaning out the heatsink. By the time I noticed the fan died my temps had risen to 60c and I turned the PC off instantly.

Those are good temperatures.
My next thought is along the lines of past damage (like when the fan had failed).
I cannot think of a reason for a cool, healthy CPU to self throttle.

But could the bottleneck be elsewhere. How is your memory, or hard drive health?

As far as I know they seem fine. I usually have a lot of programs open and RAM never seems to give me any problems. HDD is a basic Western Digital Green and it the loading times in games seem to be around the same as they've always been.
