I have a custom build PC running windows 8.1. This is by no means a slow machine. I built it a little over a year ago and at the time, could not afford enough storage so am adding in more now. Upon installation, the speed of windows explorer on the pc slowed down quite a bit. The speed of the drive for reading and writing seems fine, and I can use the drive normally with no problems. It seems though that installing this drive has caused system wide problems. For example, it takes a good 2 min for the properties dialog of a folder, from anywhere on the system, to load. Also, when i open a folder, the icons takes about 30 seconds to populate(again anywhere on the system). I would think that if the drive were somehow bad, that it would affect only that drive, but it seems to have affected windows explorer in general. I have run multiple checks and scans of the drive and none of them return any errors. Any idea on why my pc is running so slow?

PC specs:
I5_3450 cpu
8 gb Ram
OCZ Vertex3 SSD
Radeon 7850

Drive in question is a Samsusng HD103SJ

check that the drive and ssd are on the intel sata ports and not asmendia ports. make sure you have the newest intel chipset drivers installed and mei drivers and rst drivers. also check that the sata ports set to achi mode not ide or raid.
